*Review*

This little rehearsal session has been doing the rounds for a number of years now, previously popping up on at least 2 other releases, most notably the from ‘Midnight Beat’. The most obvious difference with this version is that it’s been correctly pitched for the first time. Older versions seem to run a fraction too slow and this was no more apparent than during Rosie Gaines singing parts.  I’m actually glad that Evolsidog has fixed that little issue, which I’m actually suspecting went largely unnoticed to some, as it seems to have made the whole thing sound a little livelier than before. The sound has had a bit of an overhaul too. Nothing drastic it seems as it was already a pretty decent recording but it certainly sounds a little crisper and the EQ’s better balanced than before. So, another added bonus there.

As for the rehearsal itself, the most obvious thing is that Prince is not present for any of it. This is really all about the NPG playing through a whole selection of ‘Diamonds & Pearls’ and ‘Graffiti Bridge’ material. It’s a fairly loose and slick affair with the band clearly in a good mood. As a warm up to the forthcoming D&P tour it’s unusual to hear tracks such as ‘Round & Round’ and ‘Elephants & Flowers’ as these never made it into any of of the actual live shows that were soon to start, although I suspect this is more to do with the band being fresh off the Nude Tour. So, if you don’t mind the absence of the man himself, then this is a great little time waster to funk out to and certainly worth being ‘revisited’.
