*Review*

Arriving some years after Volume 1, at first glance you may be forgiven in thinking this is just another collection of the same old Prince videos you’ve seen a hundred times before. On actually viewing it for the first time, it becomes apparent very quickly that this is most definitely not the case. Seriously, it’s hard not to write this review with gushing like an over excited fan boy.......but I’ll do my best.

The quality of these videos is simply stunning. Not just in the crystal clear picture (the screen caps below do them no justice) but also with the superb accompanying audio. Great dedication and care has been taken when sourcing these videos and although I won’t comment on exactly where some of these have come from, all I will say is that I guarantee that you won’t have seen them like this before. It’s very hard to find fault with this release, even the menus are done to a very high standard with some very clever animations for the sub-menus. Ok, so if I had to nit-pick, there is a very slight buzzing in parts of the Vicki Vale  mix but unless, like me, you have your headphones jammed to the side of your head and the volume pushed to 10, you’d be hard pressed to notice it. The period chosen for this edition highlights one of the most prolific and fan-favourite eras for Prince and the song selection does well to reflect that. There’s some great choices with just the right amount from each year to make you reach for those CD’s and revisit some classic songs and albums.

The addition of 3 hidden videos is another nice touch but I won’t spoil the fun by telling you what they are. Let’s just say they’re well worth the effort tracking down. So, wrap the whole package up in the very  professional artwork provided, remind yourself this was done by a fan for free and I doubt you’ll find a better release this year. Essential viewing.
